Get in the GREEN habit!
I think by now we are all aware that we should be more aware of how much we consume, and the need to recycle and go green. But what more can we do? There are many simple things we can do everyday to do our part with keeping “Green”. Try these great ideas and see how many you can put on your daily schedule of “Things to Do!”
- Try this “One-Finger-Workout”, it’s easy. Just use your index finger to adjust your thermostat. Just adjusting your thermostat one degree can make a difference in energy savings.
- Run your clothes washer and dishwasher only when they are full. You can save up to 1,000 gallons a month.
- When washing your hands, turn off the water while you suds up, then only turn the water back on to rinse. Do the same when brushing your teeth. Make a new habit.
- Energy savings can be as easy as changing a light bulb, literally. Change out your light bulbs for compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and you can save $30 in energy savings over the life of the bulb.
- I know we all reuse our plastic bags from the grocery store for all kinds of uses, and we still have too many stashed away. Consider using a cloth bag that many stores are now selling at a low cost to do your shopping and let the stores keep their plastic bags. Some stores have a collection depot for you to return your plastic bags.
- Start a compost pile instead of running your garbage disposal which uses both electricity and water. Composting gives balanced nutrition to your garden, minimizing weeds and producing healthy plants, saving the need for weed killing chemicals and fertilizers.
- Make a statement, take a travel mug to your favorite coffee shop to be filled. Unplug! When you are finished charging your cell phone, unplug the charger from the wall too.
- Plant a tree! Think strategically and you can benefit from the shade and wind blocking properties.
